Easter is a rejuvenating
family time, full of feelings of renewal and rebirth. While
I find the winter holidays stressful and draining, Easter
comes as a suggestion
of spring, and I like to make it special
in our family. I've always loved
this spring holiday, but I have to try to keep it
interesting to my family. Here are
three of the ways that help me
do that.
* Children, by ages 7 or 8, start loosing interest in the Easter Bunny and begin to become more
interested in art, chemistry, and
making messes. You can make food
coloring dye at home by mixing a cup of boiling
water with about 30 drops of dye and a teaspoon of vinegar.
Let the dye cool
before dipping the eggs. For creative designs, before dipping the eggs in the dye, write over
them with a candle, bind them with
rubber bands, or wrap them in waxy
dental floss. After dying them, remove the bands or dental floss to uncover the
fun designs youve made! You can also explore
boiling your eggs in various kinds of tea for more
softly colored eggs. Make sure to put the eggs in the refrigerator until you're
ready to eat them!
* To make Easter a holiday for the entire
family, dont forget to think up something
special for your husband.
Chances
are that he wouldn't enjoy a marshmellow bunny
or chick, but I'll bet he'd still get a thrill
out of an Easter basket. Just be
certain that it's aimed at more adult tastes!
Last year I ordered my husband a
gourmet cheese and wine basket. On Easter morning, while
he was still sipping his coffee, I hid
it in the house along with the kid's Easter baskets. I plan
to make that an annual tradition. While the kids are happily
biting into some of their chocolate eggs
and marshmallow bunnies on Easter morning, my
husband and I make plans for enjoying our
gourmet Easter basket and some special quiet time at the end of the day.
* Long after the identity of
the Easter Bunny has been discovered, every
member of your family will still enjoy the Easter basket hunt. Whether
you do it inside or out, whether
a race or a leisurely look around, whether the booty is to
be distributed among everyone equally or the finder gets to
keep winningsthe variations
are numerous! Be creative and
develop your own family Easter
tradition over the years; adapt the tradition
as your kids grow-up, and your whole family
will have a memorable Easter holiday
